“Because of Our History” – Creativity Explored on African American history and artist’s place in the narrative.
What is the role of the artist in the preservation and telling of history? “Because of Our History,” a quote from the late Creativity Explored artist Antonio Benjamin, speaks to the importance of Black cultural figures and their influence on CE artists’ lives and work. “Because of Our History” highlights these figures and asserts Black CE artists as integral to the story of Bay Area organizing, artistic production, and culture. Through their work we remember that history is always happening, and we can all play a part in shaping it.
