This is a chill space for you to get creative, express yourself, and hang out with new and returning zine makers. No prior knowledge or experience needed! For teens ages 13-18.

JUNE 17 - Happy Pride Month
🌈 Read LGBTQIA+ zines from the collection and add your queer story!
JULY 15 - Travel
✈️ Cut out pictures from faraway places that you dream of traveling to!
AUGUST 19 - Draw a Dream
💭 Illustrate your latest and wildest dreams!
We provide all the materials: all kinds of paper, pens/markers, magazines to cut up, folding tools, long arm stapler, paper trimmer, scanner, and free photocopying/printing. You'll also have the option to donate a copy of your zine to the Teen Zine Collection at the Main Library!

What's a zine? Pronounced "zeen," zines are DIY booklets made by collaging text and images together to share your niche interests and personal experiences through low-stakes creative self-expression. The best thing about zines is that anyone can make them – they're easy, cheap, and can explore literally any topic or theme. No rules, no filters, no algorithm – just pure pre-internet vibes, made by you because you love what you love.
Oakland Public Library’s Main Library is the big central branch in downtown Oakland, a short walk from Lake Merritt and near a bunch of bus lines and BART. Inside, it feels like a traditional multi story city library, with a busy ground floor, quieter upper levels, and lots of tables, study spots, and public computers. There is paid street parking and a couple of garages nearby, but spaces can be tight, so many people use transit instead. more...
