The Sound Of Music
Montgomery Theater is a small downtown San Jose performing arts space tucked into the same complex as the San Jose Civic and across from the convention center. It is the regular home of Children’s Musical Theater San Jose, so the calendar often leans toward youth and family shows like “Pinocchio,” “Disney’s Newsies,” and “Godspell,” with other community productions and touring events mixed in.

The neighborhood is the busy convention and hotel district, with plenty of restaurants and bars within a short walk.
Inside, the room is compact and straightforward. There is a traditional stage, a single main floor, and a balcony, with around 470 seats total. Sightlines are generally clear from most rows because of the small size, and it has the feel of a place where you are never far from the stage. The lobby is simple, with restrooms and a small gathering area, and there is an outdoor courtyard in front that often ends up as the informal meeting spot before and after shows. Expect typical downtown parking routines. There is no dedicated lot for the theater itself, but the convention center garage and several pay lots and garages are close by, and the light rail stop at the convention center is an easy walk.
The building dates to 1936 and was designed as an intimate neighborhood theater attached to the larger civic auditorium next door. It still reads that way, with older architectural details preserved and modern production gear quietly fitted into the space.
