Lakeview Branch is a small Oakland Public Library location right by Lake Merritt, across from the lakeside path and playground. It is a single-story building with a mural on the side, a main entrance on the street side, and another entrance from the parking lot with a low ramp and power-assisted doors. Inside, the layout is straightforward: a service desk near the front, shelves of books in English and Spanish, and a modest number of tables and chairs.

There are four public computers with internet and a scanner, basic printing and copying, and an accessible workstation. The branch does not have a public restroom, which is worth knowing before planning a longer visit.

The space is active with regular programs. For very young kids and caregivers, there is a weekly Playtime session for ages 0 to 3 with toys, music, and room to crawl around and socialize. Later in the day there are drop-in computer help hours, where a volunteer can sit down and walk through things like setting up email, working on a resume, or searching for jobs. Teens get their own window in the schedule with Teen Scape time, which is set up for gaming, art projects, hanging out with friends, or just doing homework with music in the background. The meeting room holds roughly two dozen people and is used for events, small groups, and community gatherings.

Parking is in a small free lot shared by library users, along with paid street parking on the surrounding blocks. Spaces fill up quickly, especially when the lake is busy, so many people arrive on foot, by bike, or via nearby transit routes on Grand Avenue. Lakeview has been part of the Oakland Public Library system for a long time, originally opening in 1930 and operating at this lakeside location since 1949, which gives it a settled neighborhood feel even though it is one of the smaller branches in the system.
