The Market is built around the historic Peralta Adobe, an adobe structure from 1797 that is considered the oldest building in San Jose and sits at the core of the plaza area. The current market complex, including Market Hall and the adjoining buildings, was developed to wrap food, drink, and retail around that historic site while keeping it visible in the middle of the outdoor space. Tours of the adobe and the nearby Fallon House are periodically offered through local history groups, so visitors coming for a concert or game-day event are likely to see these landmarks right next to the crowd.
