bio: Selena Scott is a British artist and graduate of the Slade School of Fine Art, based in San Francisco. Her research-led practice examines colonial memory, the formation of identity through history, and the afterlives of Caribbean exploitation. Working primarily across oil painting and textiles, Scott brings portraiture, symbolism and archival research together to examine the relationship between rage and repair. Her work seeks to redefine the portrayal of Black subjects within a medium historically used to perpetuate Western ideals.

Mighty Mighty Studio is a small creative arts space and gallery in downtown Oakland, a short walk from BART and other Art Murmur venues. The building is tucked between Telegraph and Broadway, so it feels central but not hectic, and there is a mix of street parking and nearby paid garages. Inside, the space is low-key and functional rather than slick, with rotating exhibitions on the walls and tables that can shift between workshop setups and reception layouts depending on the event. more...
