Manna Gallery

473 25th St, Oakland, CA 94612

Manna Gallery is a small contemporary art space in Oakland’s Uptown neighborhood, on the 25th Street gallery row where several independent galleries and studios share the block. The space is straightforward and easy to navigate, with one main room that usually holds a single focused exhibition, so visitors can take their time with each piece without feeling rushed.

Shows like Gina Gaiser’s “Built Different” or Ryan Tesluk’s “Positively Cynical” give a good sense of what to expect: mostly painting and photography, often by Bay Area artists, with work that ranges from quiet formal studies to more emotionally direct or confrontational pieces.

Regular public hours are limited, so visits tend to feel calm rather than crowded. The gallery is typically open on Saturdays in the afternoon and in the evening on First Fridays, when it participates in the wider Uptown art walk. Artist receptions, like the weekend opening for “Built Different,” are social but still low-key, with the artist usually available to talk about the work. The surrounding block includes other galleries and a parklet on 25th Street, so it is easy to wander between spaces during an art walk or make Manna a quick, focused stop before or after something else nearby.

Manna Gallery was established in 2010 and is a member of Oakland Art Murmur, the local network that organizes many of the neighborhood’s art events. It focuses on local and regional artists, with a steady rotation of short-term exhibitions rather than a permanent collection, so the experience changes from visit to visit depending on the current show.
