Making Stories
This event is over, it happened on
April 2, 2026 at Oakland Public Library: Rockridge Branch in Oakland, CA
5366 College Ave, Oakland, CA 94618, USA
Children ages 8 to 12 are invited to join a club that meets on the first Thursday of each month from 3:30-5 pm to write, illustrate, make, and tell your own stories.
This is a workshop, where kids can work alone, in pairs, or in small groups to write and illustrate stories. Follow a prompt, do a fun writing or drawing exercise, or free write.
Create a book, a zine, a comic, a story, a kamishibai, a play, or whatever!
We'll set a date for people who want to read aloud their finished stories and celebrate, and we welcome stories to be added into the library collection.
Drop in, no registration required. New members always welcome.
Please note: In January, we'll meet on the 2nd Thursday.

Rockridge Branch sits on College Avenue in the middle of Oakland’s Rockridge neighborhood, a short walk from Rockridge BART and the rest of the College Avenue shops and cafés. It is a multi-story branch with an elevator and automatic doors at the main entrance, so getting in and around the building is straightforward for strollers and wheelchairs. Inside, the branch is compact but busy, with a standard mix of adult, teen, and children’s sections. more...
