In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore the meaning and purpose of an altar and how it can serve as a personal space for intention, reflection, ritual, devotion, and spiritual connection. We’ll discuss the many ways altars can be used in everyday practice, whether for honoring ancestors, working with specific energies, celebrating the seasons, deepening a magickal practice, or simply creating a beautiful and grounding sacred space at home.Together, we’ll go over a variety of altar items and their symbolism, including candles, crystals, herbs, flowers, incense, tools, written intentions, personal treasures, and found objects. Participants will also learn about herbs commonly used on altars and how different ingredients can support protection, love, clarity, abundance, remembrance, or spiritual connection. The workshop will also touch on deities and spiritual figures, along with altar items that may be traditionally associated with them, offering inspiration for those who feel called to devotional work.After the discussion, participants will create their own altar using either a cigar box or a wine box as the foundation. This portable and personalized altar can be designed to reflect their own practice, intentions, aesthetics, and spiritual path. By the end of the workshop, each person will leave with a meaningful handmade altar and a deeper understanding of how to build and work with sacred space in a way that feels personal and powerful.
