Meet the Author: Nancy Kurshan - Levitating the Pentagon and Other Uplifting Stories
This event is over, it happened on
August 19, 2026 at Oakland Public Library: Rockridge Branch in Oakland, CA
Oakland, CA
Activist Nancy Kurshan will discuss her new book, Levitating the Pentagon and Other Uplifting Stories.
In Levitating the Pentagon and Other Uplifting Stories, longtime activist Nancy Kurshan offers a vivid, woman’s-eye view of seven decades of radical social change. From the founding of the Yippies and the theatrical feminist resistance of W.I.T.C.H., to solidarity work with political prisoners and Black liberation movements, Kurshan’s life chronicles the evolution of the U.S. Left—from civil rights to antiwar to feminist, abolitionist, and internationalist struggles.

Rockridge Branch sits on College Avenue in the middle of Oakland’s Rockridge neighborhood, a short walk from Rockridge BART and the rest of the College Avenue shops and cafés. It is a multi-story branch with an elevator and automatic doors at the main entrance, so getting in and around the building is straightforward for strollers and wheelchairs. Inside, the branch is compact but busy, with a standard mix of adult, teen, and children’s sections. more...
