Bay Farm Island
Bay Farm Island is a quiet, mostly residential part of Alameda separated from the main island by the Bay Farm Island Bridge. Visitors coming for an event can expect low-rise housing, tree-lined streets, and a suburban feel rather than a busy commercial district. There are neighborhood shopping centers with basic services, plus plenty of wide sidewalks and bike paths.

Shoreline parks and a long walking and biking trail circle much of the edge of the island, so it is common to see people out walking before or after an event.
Many of the scheduled activities here are connected to the Bay Farm Island branch of the Alameda Free Library. Programs like the Mystery Book Club and the Build with LEGO afternoons use standard library meeting areas, seating, and tables, so things are straightforward and informal. It is the kind of branch where regulars drop in, and events tend to be small enough that it is easy to find the group once inside. Evening walking tours with local historian Dennis Evanosky use the surrounding neighborhood and lagoon paths as the setting, so comfortable shoes, layers, and some wind near the water are normal.
Bay Farm Island is a district of Alameda that sits on San Leandro Bay and is linked by road to Oakland and the airport. The area started as farmland and was long known for asparagus fields and oyster beds before being built out as a planned suburban community. The Bay Farm Island Library branch opened in 1980 and now serves as one of the main public gathering spots on the island, so event listings that mention Bay Farm Island often end up using that library or the nearby shoreline and greenbelt trails as their base.
