Boom Boom Room
Boom Boom Room is a small, low-lit live music club in the Fillmore District, right across from the historic Fillmore Auditorium. It draws a crowd that is there for the band first and the bar second. Expect standing room with a small dance area, bar seating around the sides, and sound that is loud but focused on the stage. It gets crowded on weekend nights, so showing up near doors is usually the only way to get a seat.

There is often a cover at the door, and drinks lean toward standard cocktails, beers, and a few house specials. Card minimums can apply, so having some cash on hand is practical.
Most nights center on groove-heavy live music. Recent calendars have featured Bay Area funk and soul-jazz outfits like ATTA KID, rootsy bands such as Jeff Cotton’s Gin Joint, and projects like the Celestial Hotties art collective that mix Black American Music, R&B, and funk. The club is known for music that runs late, with jam-heavy sets and players drifting in from other shows in the area. On some nights it switches things up with a monthly comedy showcase before sliding back into DJ sets or bands.
The room sits in a neighborhood with deep music history, and the current version of the club has been operating since the late 1990s. It was launched in 1997 with the blessing of blues legend John Lee Hooker and named for his song “Boom Boom,” and it leans into the Fillmore’s older “Harlem of the West” reputation with a steady diet of blues, funk, soul, and late-night jams.
