Sheba Jazz Lounge
Sheba Jazz Lounge sits in the Fillmore’s old jazz corridor, close to Japantown and lower Pacific Heights. It is a compact room with low lighting, a working fireplace, and walls painted in deep colors, with a distinctive central wall modeled after the rock-cut Bet Giorgis church in Lalibela, Ethiopia. The band sets up right near the entrance, so music is front and center as soon as people walk in.

Seating is mostly small tables and two-tops, with a few spots at the bar, so it feels more like a neighborhood lounge than a big concert room.
Live music runs most Wednesday through Sunday evenings, usually kicking off around 7:30. The calendar leans heavily on jazz, blues, soul, and R&B, with recurring bands such as OG Rhythm & Blues, local singers like Barbara Gainer, and the occasional pop-leaning “piano cabaret” night from performers like Dennis Palmieri. Sets are long enough that it is easy to make a whole night of it, but it is also fine to drop in for a drink and a single set. The room can get loud and energetic on weekend nights, while midweek shows are often a bit more low-key.
The menu is Ethiopian, with classic dishes built around injera and long-simmered stews, plus a few more familiar bar-friendly plates and desserts. There is a full bar with specialty cocktails that often use Ethiopian spices. The place has been run by sisters Israel and Netsanet Alemayehu since it opened in 2006, and it is now considered the last dedicated jazz venue in the Fillmore. Expect a casual crowd, a mix of regulars and first-timers, and a steady focus on live music rather than fine-dining formality.
