R&B Rewind — The Grown Folks 55+ Edition
Donkey & Goat is an urban winery tucked into the Gilman District in northwest Berkeley, in the little cluster of production spaces and tasting rooms near the tracks. The setting is more light-industrial than vineyard, with a working winery on one side and a casual tasting area on the other. On regular tasting days it feels pretty relaxed: people at small tables, some folks working through flights, others just hanging out over a glass.

There is also an outdoor area where events spill out, so on busier days it can feel like a neighborhood gathering spot rather than a formal wine outing.
For events, the space is flexible. First Fridays at the Gilman Wine Block turn the block into a shared scene with neighboring wineries, food pop-ups, and a mix of after-work regulars and people who have made a destination out of it. Family Fridays with Brushstrokes bring in kids and parents for art projects alongside the usual wine crowd, so those nights skew more family-friendly and earlier in the evening. Special events like the FIFA Final Games Party use the indoor space for game viewing with wine and snacks, with people drifting in and out of the courtyard.
Donkey & Goat focuses on natural wine produced on site from grapes trucked in from around California, and is known as Berkeley’s first natural winery, founded in 2004. The current winery and tasting room on 5th Street opened in 2011 after the owners moved production from another Berkeley location. Being in the Gilman wine cluster, it is easy to pair an event here with quick visits to neighboring urban wineries a short walk away.
