Inside, the ground floor is a long central hall lined with food and retail vendors, mostly local outfits selling prepared food, coffee, baked goods, snacks, and specialty items. Seating is scattered rather than centralized, with a few shared tables and benches, plus more places to sit just outside facing the water. Restrooms are inside the main hall and can get lines during rush periods. The surrounding Embarcadero is flat and wide, which is why a lot of early morning fun runs and conference warm up events start here and then follow the bay in either direction. Even at those hours there is some foot and bike traffic, but the route is simple and easy to follow.

The building is a historic ferry terminal that first opened in 1898 and has kept its tall clocktower as a defining feature of the shoreline. After a long restoration, it reopened in 2003 with the current marketplace layout, and it still serves regular Bay ferry routes alongside the food hall and offices upstairs. Events here usually plug into that existing flow rather than taking over the whole space, so expect normal public activity around you during any gathering or meetup.
