Keys Jazz Bistro

498 Broadway, San Francisco, CA 94133

Keys Jazz Bistro is a North Beach jazz club with a dedicated listening room and a separate bar and lounge up front. The main room is set up for seated shows where the focus stays on the stage, and staff encourage low conversation so the music can be heard clearly. Shows typically run at 7 pm and 9 pm from Wednesday through Saturday, with Sunday sets earlier in the evening.

Seating is first come, first served, and on busy nights tables are shared, so arriving early matters if a specific spot is important.

The bar and lounge area is more casual and does not require a ticket, with the night’s concerts audible from that space. There is a full bar with a wine list and a kitchen that does appetizers, mains and desserts, with happy hour in the lounge in the early evening. The club is all ages, which makes it straightforward for mixed-age groups. A typical week might include a Hammond organ feature, like the “Hammond Organ Party” with Pamela Rose and Wayne De La Cruz, or theme nights such as Jazz Mafia playing Herbie Hancock’s 1970s electric period, often with both early and late sets.

Keys runs multiple sets per night and often adds a late show on Saturdays built around its original 1973 Hammond B3 organ. The room presents both local and touring jazz artists and has partnerships that offer discounted tickets for students and working musicians. The club sits in the same building that once housed El Matador, a 1950s nightclub that booked major jazz names, so the space has a direct link to an earlier North Beach jazz era.
