Scaling Intelligence —Modal X Gray Area Commissions — Opening Night
Mission Dolores Park is a large hillside park in the Mission District that people use for meetups, picnics, and casual events. Most gatherings happen on the big grassy slopes that look out toward the downtown skyline, so expect people spread out on blankets, portable speakers, and a mix of small social groups. On a sunny weekend it is busy and noisy, with plenty of foot traffic and vendors walking through, while weekday events feel a little more relaxed.

The park is open from early morning to late evening, with enough open space that groups doing movement classes, book clubs, or networking circles can usually carve out a corner.
Amenities are typical city park infrastructure, which helps if an event runs a few hours. There are public restrooms that were upgraded during a recent renovation, but lines can form during peak times. The park has tennis courts, a soccer field, a basketball and multi use court, two off leash dog areas, a large modern playground, and paved paths that cut across the hill. People often arrive by Muni, since the J Church line runs along the western edge, and there are bike racks and mixed street parking in the surrounding neighborhood.
The park is named for nearby Mission Dolores and sits in an older part of the city where a lot of local history is packed into a small radius. The land was once a cemetery, then became a city park in the early 1900s. After the 1906 earthquake and fire, it served as a temporary camp for residents who had lost their homes, before evolving into the busy neighborhood park that hosts today’s casual community events.
