Paramount Theatre sits in downtown Oakland, in the middle of the Uptown stretch with bars, restaurants, and other venues around it. It is a large indoor theater with orchestra and balcony seating and holds a little over 3,000 people, so most shows feel like full-scale concerts rather than club gigs. The calendar leans heavily on touring acts, from K-pop groups like NMIXX to R&B artists like Ari Lennox and international rock acts like SANAM, along with comedy, talks, and seasonal local performances.

The crowd is usually mixed in age, and most events are assigned seating.

The theater is a short walk from the 19th Street BART station, which for many people is the easiest way to get there at night. The building does not have its own parking, but there are several garages and lots in the surrounding blocks that typically stay open for events. Doors usually open about an hour before showtime, security at the entrance is straightforward, and outside food and drink are not allowed. The venue is now fully cashless and uses card or mobile payment at the box office, bars, and merch stands. The box office keeps limited daytime hours on Fridays and then opens around event times, with Ticketmaster as the main online ticketing option.

Inside, the space is a preserved Art Deco movie palace that first opened in 1931, and it is listed as a National Historic Landmark. It now serves as a regular home for groups like the Oakland Symphony and Oakland Ballet in addition to touring shows, so the production setup is built for full orchestras as well as amplified concerts. The seating is traditional theater style with relatively steep balcony sections, and sightlines are generally clear as long as you stay within the main sections for your price level.
