Planterday is a neighborhood plant shop in Oakland’s Rockridge district, right on the busy College Avenue strip. The space is a compact storefront with display tables and shelving filled with houseplants and plant-related goods, plus a mix of small gifts that fit the “plants and wellness” theme. It feels like a casual retail spot where people drop in after dinner or while wandering the block, and most events happen right in the shop during off hours.

Events here tend to be small, hands-on sessions that use the existing shop floor as a workshop area. Recent listings include a candle making workshop hosted by Healing Journey Detaiuma, a monthly acrylic paint and sip class with Paola Lagunas, and a Reiki-infused candle making night that mixes basic craft instruction with a light wellness angle. Most classes are in the early evening, typically 7 pm start times, and run for about 90 minutes to 2 hours. Expect simple setups with shared tables, all materials supplied, and a low-tech environment where the focus is on doing the project and chatting with the instructor.
Planterday opened in mid July after starting out as a plant business run from a pop up trailer, and it is owned by Bay Area locals Yumi and Matt Day. The shop operates as a mission driven business that ties its plant and gift sales to mental health support. A portion of monthly proceeds is donated to Crisis Support Services of Alameda County, so events and regular retail purchases both feed into that ongoing contribution.
