The Breema Center

6076 Claremont Ave, Oakland, CA 94618, USA

The Breema Center is a small teaching and practice space in Oakland’s Rockridge neighborhood, near the Berkeley border. It sits in a walkable commercial area with cafes and everyday shops around, and it is a short walk from the Rockridge BART station, so most people arrive on foot from transit or street parking. Events listed here, like the "Bringing Harmony to Life" classes and the "Being with the Body, We Are Supported" workshop, are typically scheduled in the evenings or weekday mornings and tend to run as structured classes rather than drop‑in social events.

Inside, the setup is simple and functional. Breema is a floor-based method, so the main room has a well-padded floor instead of massage tables or gym equipment. Participants stay fully clothed and spend most of the time on the floor in partnered bodywork or guided Self‑Breema exercises, with instructors talking about the Nine Principles of Harmony and the body‑mind connection. Expect a quiet, focused atmosphere with a small group, short verbal introductions, then a lot of hands‑on practice and occasional discussion. You will be asked to remove shoes and be comfortable sitting, kneeling, or lying on the floor for stretches of time.

The Breema Center functions as the international hub for Breema bodywork and Self‑Breema, with a regular calendar of weekly classes, workshops, intensives, and professional training that can offer continuing education credit in certain fields. It is run as a nonprofit organization and staffed by certified Breema instructors. The center opened in Oakland in 1980 and has been the main headquarters for teaching and developing Breema ever since, so many of the instructors leading current classes have long experience with the method and with this particular space.
