tiat is a new media art and technology space in San Francisco’s Union Square, in the retail podium of the Herbert Hotel. The main level is a straightforward white-walled gallery with room for projections, screens, and sculptural pieces, plus a smaller side nook that often feels like a quieter corner to read wall text or talk between sets. The crowd tends to skew creative and techy, with a mix of artists, engineers, and students who are used to beta products and works in progress.

Expect people to walk around, talk over the work a bit, and treat the space like a living lab rather than a hushed museum.

Events range from performances like AI-driven séances to hands-on workshops about generative AI tools and daytime makeathons where people bring laptops and sketchbooks and camp out for a few hours. The programming leans heavily into interactive setups, so it is normal to be asked to press buttons, wear headsets or sensors, or step into camera-tracked zones as part of the work. On busier nights there can be a light line at the door while staff check names from Luma or handle walkups, but once inside it is casual. People often hang out before and after events, comparing notes on tools and swapping links.

The organization behind the space, The Intersection of Art and Technology, started in 2023 as a roving salon series and is now a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with this two-level, roughly 4,900 square foot storefront as its downtown home. Regular open hours cover a few afternoons a week, with exhibitions on view and low-key coworking at shared tables between programmed events. Visitors coming for a specific ticketed event can usually expect other activity in the background, whether that is an exhibition still on the walls or people working quietly on laptops in a corner.
