ABOUT THE EVENT
We have been long time fans and vendors of Diaspora Spice Co. products from their inception and couldn't be more thrilled to spotlight this queer and woman-of-color owned local business. Diaspora Spice Co. is renowned for empowering South Asian regenerative spice farms and making the highest potency, freshest spices available to home cooks.
Their cookbook features recipes collected from spice farm partners and adapted for California kitchens. The beautifully designed book includes guides on how to build pantry staples such as spice blends, chutneys and pickles, and traditional Indian and Sri Lankan snacks. Co-authors Sana and Asha will sample their Rajasthani Dal Recipe and demonstrate making the tadka, a fundamental Indian cooking technique where spices, herbs, and aromatics are bloomed in hot oil to release fat-soluble flavors.

The front of the space functions as a retail store stocked with pantry staples, preserving tools and general cooking gear, so walking in for a class means passing shelves of jars, baking equipment, vinegars and grains. more...
