560 2nd St, Oakland, CA 94607, USA
Start date: March 4, 2026
End date: March 29, 2026
You’re invited to the Grand Gallery’s Artist reception for protest
photographer Howard Harawitz March 7 from 1-5pm.
With his Leica camera in his hands, Howard Harawitz
documented protests during the Free Speech
Movement in Berkeley from 1964-5. The photographs in
this exhibit reveal the conditions in the Bay Area that
birthed many of the protests of this time. From fair housing
to farm workers’ rights with the Free Speech Movement at
the core, Harawitz shines a light on present-day parallels
as a reminder to us all:
People have the power.

The Grand Gallery Oakland sits in Jack London Square, a short walk from the waterfront and the ferry. It is a straightforward, street-level gallery space with tall walls and enough room for larger works as well as smaller pieces.
