Yoshi’s is a long-running jazz club and Japanese restaurant in Oakland’s Jack London Square, set on the ground floor of a parking structure near the waterfront. The room is a mid‑sized seated showroom with cabaretstyle tables, a few booths, and a small stage that keeps the audience fairly close to the performers. Sightlines are straightforward and shows typically run a little over an hour, with a mix of touring names and local acts.

Upcoming nights with pianist Yuko Mabuchi, keyboardist Alex Bugnon, and vocalist Carmen Lundy are typical of the calendar, which centers on jazz but regularly includes R&B, soul, and other styles.

The restaurant operates separately from the club but ties into the show experience. Many people book dinner before the performance, which lets staff reserve seats in the venue while guests eat. The menu focuses on Japanese dishes and sushi, and there is table service for drinks and food during the show, with a simple one‑item minimum in the club. Most shows are all ages unless otherwise noted, and there is no formal dress code beyond what people would normally wear for a night out. Yoshi’s started in 1972 as a small Japanese restaurant in Berkeley run by three friends, then added live music after moving to a larger Oakland space. The current Jack London Square location opened in 1997 and was built out specifically as a combined restaurant and music venue, with a 310‑seat club, a separate full‑service dining room, and a bar and lounge that serve the same crowd coming in for shows.
