Bestiaries of the More-Than-Humane
This event is over, it happened on

6028 College Ave, Oakland
We partner with the intellectually dazzling Berggruen Press to bring you a workshop from artist and experimental philosopher Jonathon Keats, author of the new book, A Field Guide to More-Than-Human Governance.
Taking inspiration from medieval bestiaries, this workshop is designed to explore lessons in righteousness learned from nonhuman creatures, providing a space for creative expression of the more-than-humane. Participants are invited to evaluate the lifeways of animals and plants and fungi they know personally, deriving guidance that might be applied to the human domain. Each participant narrates and illustrates what one of the creatures has to teach in a small hand-crafted book, using standard arts-and-crafts supplies and/or scrap materials.

Local Economy is a small, flexible community space on the College Avenue stretch of Rockridge, a few doors from East Bay Booksellers. It looks and feels like a bright neighborhood storefront set up for people to gather rather than a traditional venue. Inside, most things are organized around a long central table where talks, workshops, book clubs and game sessions all happen in close quarters. more...
