September 12Th, Alameda Theatre Practical Magic 2 Market Pop Up, 5:00 Pm - 9:00 Pm
South Shore Center is an outdoor shopping center in Alameda’s South Shore neighborhood, a short walk from the beach and the bayfront path. It is laid out around a big surface parking lot with clusters of single-story shops and services, plus a central plaza where seasonal events and art activities pop up. Expect a mix of everyday anchors like a supermarket and chain retailers along with smaller specialty shops, cafes, and a few sit-down restaurants, so it is easy to pair an event with errands, coffee, or a meal.

The place is built for people to linger a bit. There are wide walkways, some landscaping, and places to sit near the main plaza. Families will notice the children’s playground in the middle of the center, and there are usually enough wayfinding signs that it is straightforward to navigate between stores and event areas. Parking is free and spread around the complex, and AC Transit buses stop right at the center on Park Street and by the larger retailers, so it is practical to arrive by transit or bike as well as by car.
The center sits in Alameda’s South Shore neighborhood, which grew up on reclaimed bay fill and is known for its midcentury layout and easy access to Shoreline Drive and Crown Beach. South Shore Center itself opened in the early 1950s and was significantly renovated around 2010, so the buildings feel like a midcentury mall that has been updated rather than a brand-new complex. It is still the city’s main regional shopping center, so events here tend to draw people from across Alameda along with some visitors from Oakland and nearby East Bay neighborhoods.
